Tuesday, March 22, 2016 | 3:00PM–3:50PM | Room 554
Session Type: Professional Development
Lecture continues to be the primary teaching format rendering students passive recipients. With the 21st-century workplace transformation through technologies, collaboration, and globalization, higher education is faced with the challenge of preparing students for this environment. The Commission of Dental Accreditation released standards focusing on higher-order cognitive skills for dental education based on the new workplace skills that are of interest across higher education; hence, courses that teach new pedagogical methods including communication, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, and self-assessment are required. This session is designed for participants who want specific pedagogy implementing new skills using active learning/teamwork strategies.

Outcomes: Demonstrate the concept of teamwork by working together to teach and learn a new skill * Compose a learning assessment and apply it to higher-order cognitive skills
