Starting with the components of a cluster, the discussion will highlight what decisions need to be made in order to start the process of "building a cluster." We will also include the topic of processors and the impact of various processor decisions; RAM and choices/rules of thumb; interconnect types and advantages (Infiniband, Omnipath, 10GbE, etc.); and how to use open source to your maximum advantage, including choice of operating system, compiler codes, and job schedulers. We will conclude with your options for buying and delivering the cluster, including turnkey offers and roll your own.
