Leveraging Automatic Speech Recognition in Higher Education

Tuesday, March 19 | 8:30AM–9:15AM ET | Room 550
Session Type: Industry Led
While automatic speech recognition (ASR) has become a part of daily life (think Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri), its application and value in higher education is still being explored. How can it help make learning more accessible and engaging for all students? Can it provide an affordable pathway to closed captioning? What role does it play in universal/inclusive design of course content? UMass Amherst is piloting Echo360's new ASR solution with a select number of courses during the spring 2019 semester. Join this session to understand the process for engaging faculty and students in the pilot and the challenges and opportunities related to their use of ASR in the learning process.

Outcomes: Learn how ASR can help make learning more accessible and engaging for all students * Learn about affordable options to closed captioning * Learn how to engage faculty and students regarding their use of ASR
