The Research and Education Networking Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC) gathers information about threats and analyzes them to provide actionable information to cybersecurity professionals in higher education. The information comes from higher educational institutions, governmental agencies, other ISACs, IT providers, cybersecurity research, and CERTs around the world. This briefing will provide an overview of the current global threat environment, focusing on trends and highlighting high-risk, high-probability threats while analyzing their potential impact on the R&E community. We will conclude with a discussion of best practices for cyberthreat defense and response and ways that REN-ISAC can assist information security practitioners.
