In the summer of 2014, CHECS (www.checs.org) conducted a survey of higher education CISOs and CIOs about skills, education, and their place in the hierarchy. In addition, both groups were asked about the CISO role and the security program, maturity, and systems at their institutions. Over 250 people responded to the surveys. The results shed light on the importance of different CISO roles and CISO effectiveness operating in those roles. The research also provided information about position requirements according to the CISO and the CIO, who supervises the vast majority of the CISOs.
OUTCOMES: Learn about CISOs' education and experience * Understand the expectations higher education CIOs have about CISOs regarding roles and background * Discover the reality of the CISO's place in the organizational hierarchy and the ideal place, according to CISOs and CIOs
