The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Campus Resilience (CR) Program was created to enhance the ability of higher ed institutions to anticipate the unforeseen, withstand disruptions, manage crises, and seize opportunity amidst increasingly turbulent times. This all-day seminar will provide a forum for information security and privacy professionals to examine threats and hazards that pose a risk to the higher ed community today. The seminar will include a tabletop exercise simulating a cyberattack targeting critical institutional networks and data consisting of three modules: a cyberespionage attack, a student/faculty data breach, and an alumni/donor data breach. Each module will include a detailed scenario and conclude with discussion questions. In working through the tabletop exercise, you will learn about critical response and recovery functions. At the conclusion, we will engage in a hotwash session to capture overall impressions of the exercise.
Outcomes: Identify common strengths and areas for improvement when responding to a cyberincident that threatens institutional information assets * Identify common strengths and areas for improvement while maintaining operational resiliency * Assess processes and capabilities to develop timely and appropriate communication for multiple institutional stakeholders * Capture key conclusions and takeaways raised throughout participation in a campus resilience exercise
Please note that the scenario used in this preconference workshop is similar to the scenario used in the 2015 DHS National Table Top Exercise. Attendees who participated in the 2015 national event may wish to consider a different preconference workshop.
