Shadow IT: How We Got All Hands on Deck to Collectively Manage Institutional Risk

Wednesday, April 11 | 11:00AM–12:00PM ET | Baltimore Ballroom A, Fifth Floor
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Interactive Presentation
Shadow IT, those systems which operate outside the purview of the organization's standards and processes, presents a significant strategic risk to the institution. In the wake of a March 2017 incident, Kennesaw State University launched an enterprise-wide project to engage, inventory, and collaborate with all parties that were managing IT systems outside enterprise IT. Within an aggressive time frame, each unit was engaged by a cross-functional team led by the CIO, with transitional projects launching immediately thereafter, ultimately reducing institutional risks.

Outcomes: Explore some common risks specific to shadow IT systems and institutional entry points * Learn how we engaged the entire campus community (all hands on deck), leveraging CIO leadership with structured projects and outcomes * Gain knowledge and tools to more effectively manage institutional risks associated with shadow IT at your institution
