The Virginia Cyber Range: Navigating the Cloud to Provide Cybersecurity Education

Thursday, April 12 | 2:20PM–3:20PM ET | Baltimore Ballroom B, Fifth Floor
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Interactive Presentation
The Virginia Cyber Range has a mission to enhance cybersecurity education for students in Virginia's high schools and colleges. Hosted in the cloud, the range includes courseware for educators and an infrastructure where faculty can provision environments for students to safely conduct hands-on cybersecurity labs and exercises. We also provide capture-the-flag environments for students across the state. During this talk and demo, we will describe our progress and discuss lessons learned while using cloud resources in a unique way. While we are currently a Virginia resource, we plan to expand availability in the coming year to users outside the state.

Outcomes: Learn about the cybersecurity education services and infrastructure provided by the Virginia Cyber Range * Evaluate the opportunities and challenges of using a cloud-based strategy for providing infrastructure for hands-on cybersecurity education * Explore the use of the Virginia Cyber Range courseware repository to find content that meets specific criteria
