A Balancing Act: Stability vs. Innovation in Higher Ed IT
The accelerating and disruptive innovation in technology is forcing organizations to reimagine the role of IT in both traditional and modern environments. IT leaders must ensure that day-to-day operations are running smoothly and cost effectively. At the same time, they're experiencing tremendous pressure to innovate and create a competitive edge. During this session, CIOs will learn about two inherently different operating models, the key challenges associated with each, and what it takes to successfully navigate an increasingly turbulent landscape.
The traditional model requires ensuring a robust operating environment (i.e., infrastructure, support functions, and admin systems) within a decentralized environment, where the innovation model requires keeping pace with change and rapidly responding to advances in technology (i.e., cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and IoT), The trick is to balance these two different operating models that are inherently at odds with each other—the one that seeks stability and the other that is disruptive, unpredictable, and demands agility.
Outcomes
- Learn what is required to transition to a more agile organization that enables institutional transformation (i.e., how to balance two inherently different operating models)
- Explore the corresponding organizational models and associated capabilities that drive transformation
- Learn how to align separate business and technology strategies into a cohesive and unified strategy
