EDUCAUSE Symposium | Keeping Learning First: From Procurement to Platform Evolution: December 2026
December 7, and 9, 2026 | 12:00 noon–3:30 p.m. ET
Online
Event Description
As teaching and learning technologies evolve rapidly, particularly through the expansion of AI-enabled capabilities, institutions need more intentional approaches to managing the ed tech life cycle. Symposium participants will explore how teaching and learning leaders can help shape decisions from procurement and implementation through ongoing evaluation and adaptation to ensure that learning, student experience, and institutional priorities remain central as technologies evolve.
Through discussion and shared examples, participants will examine strategies for strengthening cross-campus partnerships, integrating teaching and learning perspectives into decision-making processes, and responding to vendor-driven changes that occur after adoption. Together, attendees will explore approaches for evaluating the instructional implications of emerging AI capabilities and other platform updates, even when those changes fall outside of traditional procurement and governance structures.
In this symposium, we will:
- Reframe ed tech selection as a core driver of the student experience, instructional design, and institutional priorities.
- Explore how AI capabilities, vendor expansion, compliance shifts, and student/faculty expectations are reshaping the procurement landscape.
- Examine how teaching and learning priorities can be more intentionally incorporated into procurement processes.
- Explore approaches for evaluating the instructional implications of AI capabilities and other vendor-driven changes introduced after adoption.
- Identify concrete ways T&L leaders can shape decisions, engage cross-campus partners, and anticipate vendor-driven changes around procurement decisions/selecting ed tech tools.
