Event Description
As threats evolve, cybersecurity and privacy professionals must identify and catalog vulnerabilities to inform risk discussions across the institution and implement risk mitigations that align with organizational needs and priorities. At this virtual symposium, we will share peer-tested approaches to understanding, identifying, communicating, and addressing risks through frameworks, tools, and strategies that protect institutional operations, data, reputation, and mission. Through community-led presentations, group discussions, and hands-on activities, we will share how to catalog risks, conduct informed risk analyses, communicate risk posture effectively to different audiences, and mitigate risks in line with institutional needs. We will learn from peers who have informed risk management at their institutions. Join us to share experiences, develop skills, and network with professionals facing similar challenges.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the core components of risk management, including risk identification, analysis methods, and mitigation approaches applicable across diverse institutional contexts.
- Learn how to communicate cybersecurity and privacy risks effectively to different audiences and connect technical risks to the institutional mission, financial impact, risk appetite, and governance efforts.
- Identify practical tools and templates for implementing cybersecurity risk registers, conducting risk assessments, defining data classifications, and establishing risk rating systems that work for institutions with varying maturity levels.
- Explore strategies for moving beyond ad-hoc risk responses to build repeatable risk management processes that systematically categorize systems, select controls, assess effectiveness, and maintain continuous monitoring.
