EDUCAUSE Symposium | Agents Everywhere: Cybersecurity, Privacy, and the New Reach of AI –January 2027

January 11 and 13, 2027 | 12:00 noon–3:30 p.m. ET
Online

Event Description

Generative AI is entrenched in higher education and agentic systems now operate autonomously within institutional environments. This virtual symposium focuses on what that means for cybersecurity, privacy, and the protection of institutional and personal data. We will examine how systems that act independently strain identity and access management, how sensitive data moves into and out of models, and where oversight and policy fall short. We will also look at how security and privacy teams put these same tools to work to strengthen their programs. Through community-led presentations, group discussions, and hands-on activities, we will share lessons, identify guardrails, and review practices worth adopting now. Join us to share experiences, build skills, and connect with cybersecurity and privacy professionals facing the same challenges.

Learning Outcomes

  • Reframe cybersecurity and privacy core drivers of how institutions adopt and govern agentic AI.
  • Explore how autonomous systems and rapid AI adoption are reshaping the risk landscape.
  • Examine how sensitive institutional and personal data moves through AI systems.
  • Explore how security and privacy teams are using AI tools to strengthen their own programs.
  • Identify strategies and governance practices that leaders and practitioners can put in place now and scale as agent use grows.
