Once Upon a Time, There Was a Huge Data Set: Telling Our Unique User and Usage Stories with Data

Wednesday, October 18, 2023 | 1:15PM–1:55PM ET
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Live Session
Hidden within thousands of lines and dozens of columns of data and countless fields and databases is the story you need to share. Focusing our communication on the story helps our users, teams, and stakeholders better understand the narrative of the tool or service your team provides. However, there are many considerations to account for before you even dig into your data, such as being sure you are asking the right questions and have set the right objectives for crafting your data story. Join us today as we interactively explore strategies to frame your data story and identify the questions that will help determine your specific data needs. This session will explore strategies for explaining what is and is not present in the data, and how the nature of the raw data affects the story being presented. At the conclusion of this session, the presenters hope that all attendees are empowered and prepared to become better data storytellers, to have strategies they can take to their home institutions, and to become better-informed advocates for the tools and initiatives they support.
