Breaking Data Boundaries: University of Louisiana System Conquers New Frontier in Data Warehouse Automation

Tuesday, October 22 | 11:30AM–12:15PM CT | Meeting Room 206, Second Level
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Industry Led
After the academic technology leaders at the UL System led its nine-member institutions through a massive LMS migration project to Canvas in early 2024, the group quickly pivoted to its next big challenge: creating a single source of truth for all their enterprise data, including, Canvas, Ellucian Banner, and Workday. The team had specific requirements for this data management initiative. Quick Implementation: The project needed to be completed in weeks, not months. Near Real-Time Data: The data had to be updated as frequently as possible. Accurate Data: The data needed to be cleanly placed in a neutral data model that could integrate various BI tools. Cost-Neutral: The solution needed to eliminate manual processes or 3rd party solutions– or allow for the redeployment of existing resources. The seasoned UL System team knew these were lofty expectations. The manual processes they currently had to unify all this data were ineffective and resource-intensive. So they turned to K16 Solutions—the data company that migrated all of their LMS course content to Canvas and archived their historical data. By leveraging K16’s strength in data migration, extraction, and transformation, the UL System team achieved their vision of extracting near real-time data from their enterprise systems. They finally had an accurate and holistic view of their LMS, CRM, and SIS data in one place without the burden of manual or expensive processes.
