Tuesday, October 22, 2024 | 11:30AM–12:15PM CT | EDUCAUSE Commons, Enterprise Central Theater
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
Democratizing access to teaching and learning data has long been a goal of many institutions, yet continues to be fraught with technical, ethical, and data governance challenges. With AI's rapid evolution, ensuring institutions have high-quality data harmonized across edtech platforms has never been more important. The data governance aspect of this work is also paramount, as institutions work toward clear, confident, and transparent policies to maximize the positive impacts of using data to inform important decisions. This session provides strategies used at the University of California, Irvine and the University of Iowa to overcome technical and governance challenges at large institutions that seek to make important data available to different stakeholder groups. Various technical strategies will be discussed, providing a path forward to harmonizing data across disparate silos. Examples will also be provided, showcasing how these institutions are providing subsets of data to faculty, advisers, and students to help support the student experience, both from an academic and student wellness perspective.
