Our Journey to Atlassian Cloud for Project and Ticket Management: A Retrospective
We will present a retrospective of Lehigh’s migration to Atlassian Cloud and our continued efforts to keep up with a rapidly changing suite of tools. Our Atlassian suite includes Confluence, Jira Service Management, Jira Software, Jira Work Management, and Trello. Atlassian continues to release new tools, and it can be difficult to navigate which tools make the most sense for which use cases. The session covers how we navigated the quickly changing landscape as we expanded Atlassian into an enterprise solution while migrating from on-premises to Atlassian cloud. We cover our consolidation of project management tools, migration, architecture, and the training and resources we have built to ensure continued success. We reflect on what went well: consolidation and adoption, partnerships, and improved processes, which were made possible by the features and flexibility available in the Atlassian tools. We acknowledge what could have gone better: a clearer understanding of each Atlassian product and their intended roadmaps so we can plan accordingly, more granular administration controls and permissions that can be delegated, especially around team management, and clearer guidance on automation and workflows. Lastly, we focus on what we want to improve moving forward, which includes building a more prominent community of Atlassian higher education customers who can partner together on designing solutions to solve common higher education use cases, and negotiating with Atlassian on packaging and licensing that works well in our domain.
