How Virtualization Changed Computer Labs for Two Colleges

Thursday, May 31 | 10:30AM–11:15AM | Grand Ballroom Salons I/J
Session Type: Professional Development
Computer lab technology has changed drastically over the years. At Volunteer State Community College, course delivery changes led to a need to drastically increase the number of computers on campus, without the benefit of additional IT staffing. To accommodate this need, VSCC partnered with Cisco and Citrix to virtualize their labs. In the meantime, the University of Kentucky was looking to reduce the number of computer labs on campus and provide software to students on any device. A partnership with IT and the library resulted in physical computers being removed and replaced by virtual desktops able to provide software to students from every seat in the library and from the students own desktops, laptops, and other mobile devices.
