Course Activity and Digital Microcredential

Each registered participant will develop one activity that employs various concepts and strategies introduced in the course. Participants will be asked to complete assignments between the course segments that support the learning objectives and will receive feedback and constructive critique from the instructors on how to improve and shape their work. Participants who successfully complete the entire activity will receive an EDUCAUSE digital microcredential recognizing their accomplishment.

Schedule and Assignments

Session 1: Women on the Move

November 4, 2020, 1:00–2:30 p.m. ET

In this session participants will focus on setting clear goals for at least the next five years, on exploring their goals and objectives, and on aligning them with their overall professional growth plans. Participants will learn the essentials for creating and building a professional brand to catapult their overall career growth.

Outcomes

  • Identify and articulate a five-year career plan
  • Explore the core things that power happiness on the job
  • Identify what is special about their personal brand and how to craft a unique value proposition to make their brand stand out
  • Identify strategies that can be used to leverage branding to achieve their career goals

Assignments

  • Participants will identify their values, articulate a unique value proposition, and create a five-year career plan.
  • Participants will identify 10 of the values that align with their career goals and one way each of these values can get them moving and motivated to accelerate their career goals.
  • Participants will identify two strategies to promote their professional brand and identify how to apply these strategies to effectively showcase their personal brand.


Session 2: Leadership Presence

November 12, 2020, 1:00–2:30 p.m. ET

In this course, participants will learn the essentials of establishing a strong and compelling leadership presence. Participants will learn about projecting an image of authority, overcoming bias, and reorganizing their unique value position. We will also explore how participants can identify and avoid pitfalls that will prevent them from being impactful and exuding a strong leadership presence.

Outcomes

  • Understand how to overcome unconscious bias, double-bind paradox, and the imposter syndrome; speak up to be heard; and use confidence and body language to remain visible
  • Learn how to identify and avoid common pitfalls that will prevent participants from being recognized as a thought leader and/or expert in their field

Assignments

  • Participants will engage in discussion of scenarios that illustrate the importance of leadership presence.
  • Participants will complete the Leadership Capabilities Assessment to evaluate their leadership competencies, executive presence, and needed areas of professional and career development that each participant will actively address within the next 30 days.

Session 3: Salary Negotiation

November 18, 2020, 1:00–2:30 p.m. ET

In this session, participants will learn techniques on how to influence the process and components of a negotiation. We will review strategies on how to lead with value during the negotiations process and how to argue more persuasively and confidently to gain approval and buy-in from stakeholders. Participants will also learn techniques to negotiate for equitable pay.

Outcomes

  • Learn how to use the wage gap and external factors in the negotiation process
  • Learn the essential skills and techniques to negotiate firmly and persuasively without being uncomfortable as a woman
  • Understand the power of knowing your worth and increasing your ultimate skills to negotiate the compensation you desire

Assignments

  • Participants will engage in a negotiation simulation to practice negotiation techniques.
  • Participants will complete the Salary Negotiation Business Case template to provide the foundations for their next negotiation.
