Learning Experience
The Learning Lab experience is supported by both asynchronous and synchronous components. Each Learning Lab sequence includes a set of resources, an asynchronous discussion, and an interactive live session, all of which culminate in the development of a project or application to apply learning to local and specific contexts in support of the learning objectives.
Schedule
Welcome Session
June 6, 2022, 3:00–4:00 p.m. ET
This is a live session to learn the details of the Learning Lab, the Canvas site, and expectations for the microcredential. There will also be time to get to know your fellow Lab partners and facilitator.
Learning Cycle 1: Introducing the Service Center Canvas
June 8, 2022, 3:00–4:30 p.m. ET
We will introduce the Service Center Canvas, the common issues and opportunities it addresses, and each of its sections (e.g., organizational context, service offerings, and next steps). We will use case studies to illustrate how to use the Canvas and how to take it forward into testing and implementation.
Learning Cycle 2: Coordinating and Prototyping Services
June 15, 2022, 3:00–4:30 p.m. ET
In the second learning sequence, we'll reflect on participants' initial work completing their Service Center Canvases, as well as on lessons from conversations with other providers, and then revise our Canvases and complete the "Next Steps" section focused on implementation. To do this, we'll provide an overview of ways to move into implementation by quickly prototyping services.
Review and Reflect Session
June 22, 2022, 3:00–4:30 p.m. ET
The Learning Lab will conclude with an application or implementation project (described below) and a closing live session to review and process the learning from the lab.
Lab Implementation Project
During this Learning Lab, you will use Service Center Canvas as a worksheet to help you think through a real or hypothetical project at your institution—for instance, identifying the services and exploring how to deliver them for HyFlex courses or a data literacy program within a library, or support for active learning spaces. The focus will be on the "organizational context" (identifying the organizational goals, service goals, and pain points) and the "services" section (identifying what services to coordinate and how they should be delivered).
As the lab progresses, you will revise your Canvas based on reflections and discussions and complete the remaining third of the Canvas, which focuses on implementation. As part of this process, you will develop a plan to prototype a way to test service coordination over the next week (e.g., pop-up, storyboard, mock-up) to get feedback. You will also revise your "Next Steps" section of the Canvas based on the lessons from prototyping and the discussion about next steps.
