Wednesday, May 01, 2024 | 12:30PM–4:00PM CT | Greenway Ballroom A-C/H-J, Second Floor
Session Type: Additional Fee Program
Delivery Format: Preconference Workshop
Join the Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) for an in-depth workshop on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and student privacy. The sessions presented will improve the knowledge base of attendees and provide guidance on FERPA, best practices and requirements for research, data sharing, written agreements, and how to be transparent. Attendees can submit questions in advance to build upon scenarios and add to the discussion. The sessions’ objectives are to review the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as it relates to Postsecondary Education; address common misconceptions around FERPA, such as where people make mistakes and what gets them in trouble; walk through common campus scenarios; learn how to work with your university’s researchers, including FERPA exceptions that relate to FERPA, when the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) might come into play, and the responsibilities of your school to secure and safeguard other parties’ FERPA-protected information; and creating a culture of privacy on campus by working through governance issues and getting leadership buy-in, transparency around the use and protection of student data, and communication with parents.

The registration fee for this preconference workshop includes:
• Lunch on Wednesday, May 1 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
