Schools are under intense pressure to monitor every aspect of students’ lives in increasingly intrusive ways. Schools monitor students’ locations, track their web browsing, censor the information they can find online, and analyze the content of their social media posts. This keynote will examine the many technologies schools deploy to track and control students and will imagine how different it might look if schools put the privacy and security needs of students first.
