Containerized applications and services are increasingly common in higher education environments. But when traditionally hosted services are moved to containers, do enterprise application monitoring strategies keep the pace? In this talk, we will identify how visibility and compliance gaps can emerge in containerized application provisioning and deployment workflows, with a focus on validating containerized application logs for broad compliance purposes. This talk will present a common use case: what happens to our data compliance when we move web hosting to containers? By the end of this talk, attendees will be equipped to know what questions to ask about their container logs from "do I have container logging?" to "can I use my container logs?" and "do my container logs contain the information I expect them to?" While specific examples will be based on Kubernetes logging, the concepts and tactics will be broadly applicable to any containerization platform.
