Join us for AI Policies and Ethics event, which will be delivered online via synchronous and asynchronous engagement opportunities.
This EDUCAUSE Leadership Series event will include four sessions, with focused resources combined with synchronous, live conversations (via Zoom). Participants are encouraged to engage in all four sessions, as the sessions build upon one another.

Themes
Session 1 & 2 | Applied Models and Frameworks for Developing AI Policy
In the first two sessions, we will explore particular models for developing AI policy and how each might benefit an institution.
Learning Objectives:
- Models for AI policy development: We’ll discuss potential models for developing AI policy, including the Task Force, Student-Driven, Expert Panels, Pilots, and Committees.
- Identifying and engaging stakeholders: We’ll explore how to identify the appropriate stakeholders across an institution for AI policy discussions and ways to engage them in meaningful and productive conversations.
- Framework for policy creation: We’ll apply considerations for policy implementations, including processes for policy violation, communication of policy, timelines, and more.
Session 3 | Applied AI Governance and Policy Cases
In Session 3, we will extend the policy and governance conversation to real examples of AI policies and guidelines. We’ll consider AI policy use cases for assessment practices and strategies to clearly and effectively communicate expectations for the responsible use of AI.
Learning Objectives:
- Assessment practices and AI: Participants will assess current policies and consider adaptations necessary to balance AI's benefits with preserving academic integrity and freedom.
- Clear communication strategies: Attendees will learn to effectively communicate AI policies and translate those into expectations through syllabi, verbal communication, and more to enable informed decision-making and promote responsible AI use.
Session 4 | Moving AI Governance and Policy Forward
In our final session, we will explore particular means to move policies and guidelines forward once they are made. We will explore how to communicate policy in effective ways and consider the future of AI policy as it changes and expands.

- Policy Communication: Explore ways to communicate AI policy and guidelines to various stakeholders at an institution
- Focus on the future: Identify ways AI policy and governance can be adaptive and proactive instead of reactive and stagnant.
