Tuesday, July 25, 2017 | 9:00AM–11:15AM | Bixby 1 and 2, 2nd Floor
Session Type:
General Session
The only thing constant is change, especially in information technology. Effective leaders understand the changing context in which decisions are made. Our goal for this session is to develop a framework for making decisions and choices about innovation that are in sync with your institutional context. The term “strategic innovation” suggests the inherent tension between innovation and the traditions and existing strategic directions of the institution. We are searching for ways to hold onto both threads and make this a productive and creative tension, rather than innovating for its own sake or becoming stagnant. We will discuss strategies to identify high-impact innovations, develop effective implementation plans, and tell stories that highlight success and drive your institutional vision forward.
Objectives: *Identify your institution’s mission and issues, in order to maintain a relevant strategy and vision for your team *Design a strategy to identify what innovations you are currently invested in, what you can move away from, and what to focus on for the future *Develop a framework to recognize, analyze, and make proactive decisions *Identify ways to tell your team's story, focus on success, and drive your institutional mission forward
