EDUCAUSE Live! Webinar
Introduction to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

In May 2018, the European Data Protection law will change. The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) aims to increase both the accountability of organizations processing personal data and the information and control that individuals have over that processing. The new law applies to any organization processing personal data about people in Europe. It may therefore affect you if you are either collecting such data direct from individuals or receiving it from European organizations.

This online session will explain the new approach taken by the GDPR (and the proposed ePrivacy Regulation, which applies it to networks and online services), the main areas of difference, and the changes it will require to how organizations approach their processing of personal data.

Outcomes

  • Explore the main differences between the GDPR and the previous data-protection law
  • Identify the areas organizations will need to include in their GDPR planning
  • Better understand information life cycles for data processing for which you are responsible
