The active learning classroom (ALC) is becoming mainstream in higher education, and many campuses will continue to implement ALCs. Yet many questions abound: What teaching, technology, and furniture considerations are needed? What types of faculty development are needed to ensure success? What is the impact on student learning experiences? How do ALCs impact student engagement and instructor teaching practices? To help explore these and other questions, Steelcase has been awarding annual Active Learning Center grants to selected institutions to enable them to set up an ALC and research their impact. In this session, we'll explore four institutions' experience with ALC projects.

Outcomes:Get the ingredients of a successful support program for ALCs * Understand the range of learner and instructor experiences in ALCs * Understand the potential impact the ALC can have on an institution
