Overview
Insights available through data are occasionally straightforward, but more often nuances and complexities in higher education make it difficult to turn data into easy-to-digest information. Data storytelling is distinct from data visualization, though data visualization is an element of storytelling that makes the data come ‘alive’ visually. Instead, data storytelling is the practice of making a compelling argument based on an audience’s needs using a narrative approach, supplying needed context and using data as evidence. Using a data storytelling approach allows one to guide their colleagues and a wide range of stakeholders to grasp and understand problems and insights, aided by context and narrative. Join this Learning Lab to discover the many uses, required skills, and complexities of telling a compelling story with and about data.
