The University of Mississippi is working to implement and scale adaptive courseware in 20% of general education enrollments by 2019. Currently, the university is piloting adaptive courseware in 20 general education courses in both STEM and humanities disciplines. Ten distinct adaptive platforms are involved in these pilots. Faculty overseeing these pilots are conducting quantitative research on student outcomes. In fall 2017, adaptive learning program researchers conducted student focus groups and surveys to determine how students perceive the effectiveness of the courseware in their learning. Presenters from UM will share the initial results of this qualitative research.
Outcomes: Define 4 criteria for adaptivity in educational courseware in order to evaluate supplier adaptivity claims * List 3 specific functions of adaptive courseware students find helping in learning that can inform your decisions in choosing courseware to use in your teaching * Summarize the research data and apply the findings to your institution's purchase and/or use of digital courseware
