FAQs for Breakout Sessions

Q: Where can I find a description of my delivery format?

A:

The NERCOMP Annual Conference will feature two general sessions, facilitated discussion sessions, presentation/panel sessions, posters, and demonstrations. These will be either 20- or 45-minute presentations. Take a look at the 2023 CFP page for an overview of your assigned format. Your presentation should align with your format and description. Attendees will be confused if they join what they thought was a facilitated discussion and it turns out to be a panel session!

Q: What are the key deadlines and dates for my presentation?

A:

Advance preparation is vital for the success of your presentation. As a presenter at an EDUCAUSE/NERCOMP event, you’re providing valuable information, advice, and direction to your peers. Abide by all deadline dates as listed below and outlined in speaker communications. EDUCAUSE reserves the right to move, alter the delivery format, or cut sessions if event milestone deadlines are missed.

  • December/January: Complete Agreements in Presenter Participation Portal: 1) Speaker Agreement; 2) Publishing Agreement; 3) Streaming & Recording Agreement; 4) Registration Requirement Agreement. (If you need the link to the presentation portal again, please contact [email protected].)

  • December/January: Update Your Presenter Profile. Please log into EDUCAUSE's membership system to make sure your profile is up to date (bio, photo, title, company, etc.). Your profile will be listed on your presentation page for attendees to view, so you will want to ensure it is current.

  • Late January: Event program and registration goes live on the NERCOMP Annual Conference website. Check your session listing for accuracy.

  • February 13: Presenter Registration Deadline; Travel/Hotel. We ask that you be registered by this date and have your hotel/travel secured. (Note: One presenter from each session receives a complimentary conference registration, excluding corporate sessions.) Scholarships are available. To see eligibility please visit our scholarships page. The deadline to apply is Feb. 27.

  • January/February: Create your presentation; refine presentation skills and engagement tactics. For your convenience, here is the event PowerPoint template. Be sure to watch the Presenter Support Modules for best practices to help you create and deliver an outstanding presentation.

  • March 20: Presentation Materials to be submitted. The lead presenter will submit materials (copy of PowerPoint slides, supplemental materials/resources, etc.) to EDUCAUSE.

  • March 27-29: NERCOMP Annual Conference 2023. Present at your scheduled date/time. Good luck!

Q: Do you have a preferred naming convention for files, and should I include a copyright statement?

A:

All presenters should share their presentation materials prior to the annual conference. Please rename files to be uploaded with the session title and the resource type (examples: "NameofSession_Slides.ppt" and/or "NameofSession_ Handout.pdf"). If you password-protect a PDF document, please make sure to enable the file to be read by a screen reader. It is our goal to make our resources easily available to those who use adaptive and assistive technology to access files over the internet.

Important Note: This statement appears on the EDUCAUSE PowerPoint template and highlights the terms of the permission agreement you accepted in EDUCAUSE’s Publishing Agreement. If you are using your own PowerPoint, please include this statement on one of your slides:

This presentation leaves copyright of the content to the presenter. Unless otherwise noted in the materials, uploaded content carries the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), which grants usage to the general public, with appropriate credit to the author.
