Elevating Learning: Unlocking a New Generation of Rich User Experiences for Students and Educators

Tuesday, March 26, 2024 | 11:30AM–12:15PM ET | Room 550 AB
Session Type: Industry Led
Delivery Format: Presentation or Panel Session
Universities are increasingly focused on providing elevated learning experiences for their students, and the often-forgotten common denominator, regardless of discipline, is the Learning Management System (LMS). Faculty support for academic technologies tends to focus on those who consider themselves basic users, especially in relation to LMS support. While universities have a good grasp of the problems and solutions to support these users, little is known about power users who push the boundaries of these systems to create rich experiences for their students. This session will present findings from a recent study on student perceptions of best practices related to creating the rich user experiences of D2L’s LMS Brightspace. A mixed- methods approach was adopted, combining focus group and survey data at a large private technical university, revealing a range of experiences. These features were mapped to several CX constructs to show how student perceptions are elevated. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore innovative examples, discuss implications for faculty training and support, and consider strategies for raising awareness of the activities of this often-hidden power-user group.
