Training, recruiting, and retaining the next generation of cybersecurity professionals is a challenge beyond the traditional demographics. How do we build a diverse and sustainable pipeline of professionals for higher ed and the broader community? Gannon University is helping transform the industrial port of Erie, Pennsylvania, into a cyber-technology magnet for security-conscious students within the state, nationally, and internationally. In 2018, the university embarked on this ambitious curriculum enhancement that culminated with opening the Institute of Health and Cyber Knowledge. This was a collaboration between IT, the dean, and facilities. We will discuss how this transformational approach can benefit higher education institutions that take a communal approach where security is embraced by the entire institution.
