Leading through Change: A Case Study on LMS Implementation and Digital Transformation

The pace of change within higher education has accelerated at an unprecedented rate, driven by the pandemic and, more recently, with the technological developments in (Generative) AI. This rapid transformation poses significant challenges for designing innovations and new technology implementations, particularly at institutions where faculty and staff are experiencing burnout and change fatigue. This session will explore prominent change management models and present a case study of an LMS implementation project at Bentley University that adopted and adapted a digital transformation model integrated with design thinking principles. Participants will be introduced to a tailored, three-stage model: preparing for change, making change last, and developing a faculty readiness plan that positions the institution for a successful and effective change management. We will share our lessons learned and insights from the post-implementation survey results that evaluate the transition experience of faculty and students. Participants in this session will gain practical, actionable strategies to promote resilience and design innovation at their own institutions.
