Transforming Library Services through Staff Engagement

Wednesday, March 28 | 8:30AM–9:15AM ET | Room 555
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Interactive Presentation
Trinity College Library Circulation and Technical Services staff had not changed organizationally in over 30 years, with the one exception that staff size had regularly shrunk. In 2017, the two groups merged, moving into a unified space close to the circulation desk. At the same time, new back-end processing software, Alma from Ex Libris, was implemented. Both changes presented an opportunity to rethink processes and services to better meet the needs of a 21st-century information organization. This presentation will convey how staff were engaged in high-impact projects to successfully improve services through the use of workflow analysis and benchmarking.

Outcomes: Define workflow analysis and identify software to support it * Explore strategies for empowering staff to participate in service improvement * Identify meaningful data and benchmarks for patron-facing services
