By following universal design principles and striving to create a culture of accessibility within our institutions, all members of the learning community can be afforded the full benefits of our latest technologies. And, by supporting a culture of accessibility, risk will be minimized by facilitating compliance with regulatory mandates and best practices. The six steps to developing an accessibility strategic plan include identifying a framework; determining a baseline; determining program maturity; utilizing opportunities to empower the learning community; establishing policy and standards; utilizing accessibility champions; and collaborating with interdisciplinary stakeholders.
