Academic research and central IT often don't work collaboratively. Over the last several years, UMBC has received multiple MRI (Major Research Instrumentation) grants from the NSF. We needed a strong partnership between UMBC's Division of IT and Office of the VP for Research to integrate these instruments into the campus.
Outcomes: Develop a concrete plan of action to bridge potential divide between office of research and central IT * Identify issues that inhibit collaboration * Gain an understanding of the value of pooling resources to create cross-discipline systems whenever possible
