In summer 2017, NCSU Libraries began planning a data science commons to foster interdisciplinary data science skills by combining specialized computing and a large visualization wall. We will discuss the motivation and processes guiding its development, describe our user research strategy, and share lessons learned from supporting shared technology resources.
Outcomes: Learn a process for determining student needs for advanced computing on campus * Understand how technology and services can help students and faculty build data science skills * Discover ways to create and use large-scale visualization spaces that support curricular goals
