MOOC Completion: A Descriptive Case Study

A massive open online course (MOOC) allows diverse learners to participate in a course to learn specific content. A qualitative case study was conducted to describe the drivers and barriers associated with MOOC completion. Research findings and implications will be presented after 16 interviews were conducted with MOOC participants.

Outcomes: Describe the research on completion rates in massive open online courses (MOOCs). Explain the drivers and barriers associated with MOOC completion. Explain the strategies that were used to complete a MOOC. Identify how study participants changed their professional practice after completing MOOC-Ed. Explain the importance of micro-credentialing in higher education.
