According to the National Center for Education Statistics, over 21% of undergraduate college students identify as having a disability. When you read that statistic, what is your first reaction? For many educators, this elicits a fear response and makes us ask, “Is my course accessible to my learners?” As we research accessibility, that fear turns to despair as we think through the huge steps it might take to remediate our course content for accessibility, and we end up doing nothing at all. This session seeks to break that cycle and make remediating our courses a light-lift process that can be tackled one small but impactful step at a time. In this hands-on presentation, we’ll investigate an “Accessibility Step a Day” framework that will give you the tools needed to tackle common accessibility remediation in your LMS in a manageable way. If we each spend 10 minutes a day in our digital learning spaces increasing accessibility, we can create a community of educators whose small steps forward remove learning barriers for our students.
