Analytics on Tour: How Data Engineers, Analysts, and Strategy Set the Stage

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 | 1:00PM–1:45PM CT | Meeting Room 106 C, Level 1
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
In this session, we’ll walk through the end-to-end development of a scalable data engineering pipeline built to empower data analysts and institutional stakeholders with self-service learning analytics. Using Canvas as our initial data source, we created a robust infrastructure that not only delivers curated, actionable data but also drives impact in teaching, learning, and institutional decision-making. We’ll break down how we went from backstage wrangling with raw data to delivering show-stopping dashboards that empower self-service (hint: it did not always go smoothly). Expect behind-the-scenes looks at our pipeline, automation “soundchecks,” and a timeline that shows how we’ve grown our fan base across the institution. Participants will leave with concrete examples—including pipeline screenshots, analytics timelines, and lessons learned—to apply in their own institutions. We’ll conclude with a roadmap for what’s next in our analytics evolution. Just like crafting a hit record, building a successful analytics infrastructure takes more than raw talent—it takes harmony between engineering, analysts, and leadership, precision in the setup, and a deep connection with the audience. In this Nashville-themed session, we’ll share how our data engineering “band” turned Canvas data into an analytics symphony that enables institutional decision-makers and data analysts to jam on their own.
