Debugging Higher Education: Innovation and Play for More Engaged and Effective Teaching and Learning (separate registration is required)
Crisis! Innovation! Change! Change management! In a world that needs solutions, sharpening your creative problem-solving and planning skills is a must. This workshop challenges you to think outside the box by engaging in a structured, playful design-thinking process focused on addressing the issues most important to you. Through a series of interactive activities, you will identify a challenge or problem that is impacting your teaching or professional practice, develop and test a solution that addresses that challenge, and create a plan of action that you can immediately implement. The workshop combines playful pedagogy, design thinking, mindfulness, and project-based learning, a methodology pioneered by Innoplay at the University of Exeter. With a bias toward action, this workshop focuses on doing rather than talking about doing. You will leave with designs and an implementation plan, as well as the energy to make meaningful change. That’s the power of getting things done through play!
Outcomes of this workshop:
- Identify a challenge or issue in your teaching or professional practice.
- Develop a solution that addresses that challenge.
- Leave with a set of techniques for ongoing problem-solving.
- Have fun!
Note: Participants who successfully complete this preconference workshop will be eligible to receive an EDUCAUSE microcredential. To earn this digital badge, you must complete a brief workshop evaluation and share two key learning outcomes from your experience. All registered participants will receive an email on October 29 with instructions for completing these steps. Completion of both is required.
