Found in Space: Using Space Data to Improve Decisions, Inform Programs, and Conserve Resources
The University of Virginia's McIntire school created a data and reporting ecosystem to answer business questions about usage, availability, and space needs. By synthesizing data from real time Wi-Fi-based occupancy systems, central scheduling systems, access control, and lab monitoring software, McIntire created a real-time dashboard to inform decisions, validate course scheduling, and identify usage patterns to better deploy resources. In addition to information the dean's office, registrar, and building operations functions, this data ecosystem is also used to inform the McIntire community about space availability and congestion. This interactive session will cover the business questions the school posed about space, the technical solutions that were designed and implemented, and the privacy and community concerns that were addressed along the way.
