Open source platforms like Open edX offer institutions a flexible, scalable foundation for delivering noncredit workforce training, including microcredentials, upskilling, and reskilling programs. This session highlights how Penn State Extension and MIT xPRO have used Open edX to support their unique workforce development missions—from community-based education to advanced technical training. The session explores the strategic benefits of open source infrastructure, key implementation insights, and lessons learned. Attendees will gain actionable guidance on using open source technology to meet evolving workforce needs while maintaining institutional autonomy and long-term sustainability.
