From Feedback to Functionality: USC's Student-Centered LMS Transformation
Prioritizing student experiences is crucial to effective edtech tools. Our session explores a student-centered approach to Learning Management System (LMS) transformations, emphasizing how feedback drives improvement and shapes the product roadmap. We collect and analyze student feedback through surveys, focus groups, and analytics to gather insights. This data identifies trends and opportunities for enhancement. By integrating feedback into our decision-making process, the LMS evolves to align with student needs. The success of a student survey sent after initial launch (10,000+ responses and 3,000 comments) underscores the importance of student feedback and the LMS's pivotal role in learning. Students want to manage multiple courses, due dates, and assignments; integrated calendars, to-do lists, and performance views; and flexible access, especially mobile/tablet. Students expect a seamless, efficient experience and predictable, consistent design. By incorporating feedback into the LMS roadmap, we have improved functionality and user satisfaction. The presentation highlights the student-centered LMS transformation and USC’s commitment to enhancing the student experience by increasing LMS adoption and centralizing student learning. USC's data collection on LMS student satisfaction proves dedication to data-driven decision-making and student-centered learning. Collaboration between academics and IT was crucial to project success and widespread Brightspace adoption.
