From Siloed to Strategic: Tackling Data Quality Challenges through Governance

Tuesday, October 28, 2025 | 1:00PM–1:45PM CT | Meeting Room 204, Level 2
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
Data is one of higher education’s most valuable assets—but its potential is often undermined by poor quality, fragmented systems, and a lack of clear governance. Institutions struggle with siloed data sources, inconsistent definitions, integration challenges, and limited trust in the data used for strategic decision-making. These issues not only slow innovation but can lead to misguided priorities, compliance risks, and operational inefficiencies. This interactive session, hosted by the Data Governance Community Group, will explore the root causes of data quality challenges in higher education and highlight how data governance can serve as a catalyst for change. Through real-world examples and shared discussion, participants will examine how institutions are navigating the shift from reactive data management to proactive, strategic approaches. We’ll discuss policy development, cross-functional collaboration, and building a culture of shared data responsibility. Attendees will leave with insights and ideas for improving data quality through effective governance—no matter where their institution is on its data journey.
