From Silos to Synergy: Centralizing IT Support Across a Multi-Campus Powerhouse

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 | 2:15PM–3:00PM CT | Meeting Room 207 A, Level 2
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
What happens when one of the largest public university systems in the country decides to unify all IT support—across every campus, school, and unit—under a single, centralized organization? At Indiana University, we’re finding out in real time. In 2023, IU consolidated all on site, distributed IT support into the central IT organization, bringing together the previously decentralized local IT support environments of the flagship campuses in Bloomington and Indianapolis and integrating support for all schools, units, and health sciences. But we still operated three distinct central IT support teams (Frontline/Helpdesk, Onsite/Distributed, and Regional Campus technology support). Now in 2025, we’re building on that foundation by bringing all IT support staff (~400 FTE) at IU into one unified team under the leadership of Patrick Phillips, associate vice president for Enterprise IT Support—unlocking new opportunities for collaboration and shared innovation across the institution and the central IT organization. It’s a once-in-a-generation shift in how we deliver support—and it’s happening at scale.
