From Vision to Curriculum: Institutional Strategy for AI Integration in Higher Education

How can higher education institutions strategically embrace artificial intelligence to prepare students for an AI-driven future while also using it to transform teaching and learning? This session presents a forward-looking institutional strategy that addresses both. In order to deploy this strategy, we created two Educational AI Committees—Strategic and Operating—to align initiatives with institutional goals, monitor trends, and guide implementation across multiple academic areas. We’ll also share a practical framework that maps four key uses of AI in education: supporting teaching practice, addressing student learning needs, and developing both teaching and learning of discipline-specific skills. All of this is in line with our ethical guidelines for the use of AI for both students and teachers. We’ll dive into how AI is reshaping assessment and feedback, with examples from pilot implementations of AI tools. Additionally, the session introduces the AI Fundamentals framework, built from extensive international research, which defines essential competencies in understanding, applying, and ethically using AI. Through live Q&A and interactive polls, participants will reflect on their own contexts while gaining valuable insights to apply in their institutions.
