In this poster session, the presenters will discuss their research on leveraging mentorship and contractual learning as part of the dissertation student experience at one online institution. Many higher education leaders and educators may understand the importance of providing students with the community and connection created through mentorship and the scaffolded learning created by contractual learning. However, there can be a disconnect between the need to provide that type of support and implementing the strategies in a deliberate and comprehensive way. The presenters will outline their unique experiences establishing systemic mentorship and contractual learning to improve the student experience and retention rates. They will provide their framework for implementing and gaining stakeholder buy-in to these student engagement strategies.
