Minding the Gaps: Learning-Driven Change for Strategic Data Governance

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 | 9:45AM–10:30AM CT | EDUCAUSE Commons, EDUCAUSE Central Poster Area
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster
Traditional change models such as Kotter’s 8-Step and Prosci’s ADKAR urge frequent, role-based communication but rarely address the cognitive diversity that determines individual understanding and action. Do change models unintentionally exclude individuals who require different means of representation to engage with change? Can change practitioners apply accessible and inclusive teaching strategies to empower all stakeholders as active agents in the change process? By demonstrating how core principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can enhance change management, we propose that multiple means of engagement, representation, and action translate a strategic vision into a shared understanding, agency, and change across the institution. Using data governance as an example of institution-wide change, attendees will discover adaptable strategies to reduce resistance and accelerate adoption. Our goal is for everyone to leave this session with a deeper understanding of learning design applications and change management, along with resources to create more inclusive change initiatives at their home institutions.
