Navigating 'No:' Fostering Change Adoption Amid Resistance and Limited Resources

Tuesday, October 28, 2025 | 4:30PM–5:15PM CT | EDUCAUSE Commons, Enterprise Central, Poster Area
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster

Implementing significant IT change often requires grappling with budgetary constraints and encountering user resistance rooted in perceived inconvenience, lack of immediate or tangible benefit, and anxiety over the unknown. This session will explore a challenging real-world case study: the implementation of a university system-wide cybersecurity mandate where a modified Organizational Change Management (OCM) framework was developed and deployed leveraging existing resources. We will explore the resourceful strategies employed to navigate substantial user resistance, address concerns, and cultivate a culture of change readiness in the face of complex technical requirements and evolving impacts. Attendees will gain practical, actionable insights for leading any IT initiative requiring significant user buy-in and behavioral shifts, even when faced with limited resources and inherent friction.
