Openness Community Group (CG): From Idea to Impact, Showcasing Open Initiatives across Higher Education

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 | 10:45AM–11:30AM CT | Meeting Room 106 C, Level 1
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
What does it take to launch, grow, and sustain open initiatives in higher education? Join members of the EDUCAUSE Openness Community for a dynamic panel session highlighting real-world examples of open source software, open educational resources, open science, and open data projects from a variety of stakeholders. Each presenter will share their campus’s journey—whether in the early stages of ideation, mid-phase growth, or long-term sustainability—offering insights into the strategies, tools, and institutional infrastructure that have shaped their efforts. This session will explore the unique opportunities and challenges at each stage of an open initiative’s life cycle. Panelists will reflect on lessons learned, community engagement, governance models, and the critical role of collaboration in building momentum. Whether you're just beginning to explore openness or looking to scale an existing effort, you'll leave with practical takeaways, inspiration, and a clearer understanding of the resources and partnerships that can help bring open initiatives to life on your campus.
